Q: What is the life system?

Omega life is the next generation of home care system.

It is an ‘assisted living technology’ system designed to enable people to stay in their own homes for as long as possible by enhancing the ability of their carers to care for them thereby reducing uncertainty and worry.

The system consists of a discreet solution of a central controller (life Hub) along with wireless buttons and sensors in the home of the person requiring care. The controller connects to the internet via an existing broadband connection or, alternatively, a 4G (cellular) router.

A simple to use app, the life App, on smartphones, provides notifications and information at your fingertips.

Q: What does it do?

In short, it monitors movement, the opening and closing of doors and windows and the usage of electrical appliances to provide carers with information and notifications on their smartphones relating to the persons activities within the home.

Simple set up allows the use of timers associated with the various sensors. The system can be set up to monitor your loved ones routines and notify you of any irregularities. For example, a notification can be sent to the life App:

  • if the front door is opened between 9pm and 8am
  • if the normal morning routine (say, moving from bedroom to bathroom, moving from bathroom to kitchen and turning the kettle on) isn’t followed
  • if something doesn’t happen during a defined period – no movement in the kitchen from noon to 2pm (lunchtime)

In addition, our wireless emergency buttons can be installed anywhere within the home and when pressed will send an immediate notification to the life App.

Q: Who is it for?

The life system has been designed to help carers of anyone who wants to stay in their own home but requires assistance to do so, including, the elderly, persons diagnosed with dementia or other medical conditions, persons with disabilities, persons convalescing.

Q: Is it discreet?

Yes, all the sensors and buttons are small and do not require any wiring to be installed.

Q: Does it use cameras?

No, the life system does not use cameras and does not allow anyone to see inside the persons home.

We do recommend the use of a good quality external audio/video doorbell and accompanying app as these allow carers to assist with callers remotely.

Q: Does it work in any home?

As with any wireless system signal performance is subject to layout and conditions, primarily distance between the controller (life Hub) and the sensors/buttons and the construction of walls and furnishings.

The life system uses robust wireless technology, which, along with placement flexibility ensures broad compatibility with domestic residences.

Q: What if there is no existing broadband connection?

Where no conventional broadband is available or desired, a Wireless 4G Router can be used (subject to cellular service availability). These use the same networks as mobile phones to provide internet access and include WiFi connectivity within the home. Just like with mobile phones, various service plans are available.

Q: What smartphones does it work with?

Both iOS (Apple) and Android operating systems are supported. We recommend that the latest version of the operating system is installed on your smartphone.

Q: How do I make sure I buy the right system for me?

Updates to the life App will be carried out as normal via the relevant app store for your smartphone.

2. Installation

Q: Is it easy to install?

Yes, we have made installation as simple as possible.

The life Hub is placed near the broadband router and a spare mains socket. Simply plug the supplied cable into the life Hub and broadband router and plug the power supply into the Hub and mains socket (just like a mobile phone charger).

The appliance monitor adaptors simply plug into the mains socket currently being used for the appliance and all other sensors/buttons are supplied with double-sided adhesive pads, so no tools are required.

The life App is used to pair the sensors/buttons with the life Hub. Full instructions are provided within the app as the simple process is carried out and user guides are also provided with every product.

Q: Where can I get the app?

The life App is available from the App Store, for iOS, and the Google Play Store for Android.

Q: Will someone tell me the best locations for each part of the system?

Advice on the best locations for each of the system components will be sent to you alongside your order.
You can also find digital guides in the installation page of the website.

Q: Can I name the sensors/buttons individually?

Yes, you can assign a name to each device, so the system is more relevant to your loved ones home. Names can be changed by you at any time should you require.

Q: Do you provide an installation service?

Yes, we can provide installation by suitably trained and vetted engineers – please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Q: If an engineer installs my system and my loved one moves to a new house, can I ask for an engineer to fit it in the new house?

Yes, we can provide removal of the system and re-install it at the new one – please contact us to discuss your requirements.

3. Usage

Q: Who can use the app?

For each system there is a main user who can, if required, invite others into a group so care can be shared, and every user is kept up to date and receives the all-important notifications.

Each user will need to have the life App installed on their smartphone. Each invited user will receive an email with a link and simple instructions on how to join the group and will then be able use the app just like the main user. Of course, the main and invited users will only have access to the system they are authorised to.

Q: Can we communicate within the group?

Yes, the life App includes a dedicated group messaging section. Messages can be sent by any user and are received by all users within the group; very useful for letting the others in your group know what shopping is needed or for checking who is taking your loved one for that appointment.

Q: What if there is a power cut?

In the event of a power cut, your data cannot be sent. Normal service will resume after the power cut, but don't forget that the power adaptors (smart plugs) will have reverted to an off state. You can switch them on by pressing the front button.

Q: Will it pick up pets moving around the house?

Motion sensors may pick up pet movement. We advise you to buy door sensors instead for rooms pets may move around.

4. Pricing

Q: Can I cancel my subscription at any time?

You can cancel your subscription any time after the initial 6 months period (minimum contract). We require you to give us 30 days written notice to cancel your contract,  which will not take effect until before the end of the initial 6 month minimum contract term.
